The Minister for Aviation and Transport of the Somali South West State Government, Hassan Abdinur Adan, has commended Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) troops deployed under the African Union Support and Stabilisation Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) for their critical role in promoting peace and stability in the region.
Minister Adan made the remarks during a courtesy visit to the Battle Group 45 Headquarters in Barawe, where he met UPDF commanders and personnel serving in the area.
He expressed appreciation for the professionalism, expertise, and dedication demonstrated by the troops, noting that their efforts have significantly contributed to the stabilisation of Barawe and surrounding communities.
He particularly acknowledged their sacrifice in serving far from home.
“The way you conduct your work is admirable. Leaving your families behind to serve here is something we do not take for granted. The Somali people and their leadership are truly grateful for your commitment,” he said.
The Minister reaffirmed the South West State Government’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with AUSSOM and the UPDF, pledging continued collaboration to sustain peace, security, and stability across the region.
In response, Battle Group 45 Commander Colonel Justus Musenene reiterated the UPDF contingent’s resolve to maintain security, protect key government installations, and support Somali authorities in accordance with the AUSSOM mandate.
“The mission remains focused on providing a secure environment that enables governance and development,” Colonel Musenene said.
The meeting included several senior officials, among them Barawe Airport Manager Mohamed Nurani Kasim, Military Information Officer Major David Akandwanaho, and other government and military representatives.
The visit highlighted the strong partnership between Somali authorities and AUSSOM forces as they work together to advance long-term peace, security, and stability in South West State.
